Origins of ADCC and Its Impact on Martial Arts
Sheik Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the son of the U.A.E. leader Sheik Zayed, created the ADCC and the ADCC World Submission Fighting Championships. After becoming a fan of MMA in 1993 and studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in San Diego, California, Sheik Tahnoon returned to the U.A.E. with a passion for martial arts and a vision to implement and grow the sport in his home country.
To bring his vision to life, Sheik Tahnoon founded the ADCC (Abu Dhabi Combat Club) and transformed an idle facility in Abu Dhabi into a world-class martial arts club. He hired top instructors in various disciplines, including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Wrestling, Sambo, Muay Thai, and more, providing them with state-of-the-art facilities to conduct classes and train professional fighters. The ADCC quickly became the premier facility for learning and training MMA in the Arab world.
